In EA’s portion of the Microsoft press event at E3, following the announcement of Titanfall coming to EA Access for free for Xbox One this summer, Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 was announced with a teaser featuring all new plants and zombies that you can control. In the teaser, it is implied that you can play as Imps (the small zombies that show up fairly frequently in Plants Vs. Zombies 2) and a superhero and pirate themed zombie, as well as a corn stalk that can rapidly shoot kernels and what appears to be a flying orange. While no gameplay was shown in the Microsoft event, Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is promised to be even funnier and more over the top than the original.
During the EA press conference though, more of the game was revealed with various gameplay details and a gampeplay trailer. In the conference, it is revealed that Dr. Zomboss, the antagonist of the series, has taken Suburbia and has renamed it Zomburbia and the plants are on the offensive to reclaim Suburbia. The Scientist is returning seemingly unchanged, the Imp (which has apparently taken the place of the Soldier from the last game) which can summon a controllable mechanical Gargantuar in a manner not unlike the Titans from Titanfall, Superbrainz (the melee class), and Captain Deadbeard (the sniping class of the zombies) fill out the Zombie roster. Like the last game’s Garden Ops mode, in Graveyard Ops the Zombies must protect an objective while progressively harder waves try and destroy the objective.
Following in the steps of their previous game, free DLC will continued to be offered after the Spring 2016 release, and if you played the sequel, your stats will carry over when applicable. Improving upon their previous game though, Plants Vs. Zombies will include the option to have AI take control of bots for every mode, adding a kind of a single player mode and a way to combat the death of every multiplayer focused game where other people simply stop playing after a certain point.
