Although Destiny is one of the most anticipated titles of 2014, news regarding the game has been lacking recently. Perhaps noticing this, Bungie producer Pete Parsons recently disclosed some more info in the latest issue of Game Masters magazine. The most important parts of the discussions were picked up by AgriosEndendros on Reddit.
Parsons addressed some of the concerns raised by fans regarding the differences between the game’s current and next-gen versions. Apparently there will be no big differences and Destiny should please both PS3 and Xbox 360 owners.“Hopefully players will be pleasantly surprised by how appealing it is on [last generation hardware]. It’s the same game, that was hugely important to us. Part of some of the really big, ambitious technologies set up for this… all of this lives on one set of servers. There’s one world that we’re building, and that is extended out to multiple platforms.” This is good news considering that no one likes dumbed down versions of a game, especially an ambitious game such as Bungie’s Destiny.
Of course, next-gen consoles will also have to be up to par and the stakes are high considering this is the first game developed by the company for the PS4. Lead Designer Lars Bakken spoke with Game Masters about this particular aspect. “We’re taking advantage of the cool things Sony’s doing with the [PS4] platform. The Share feature’s great – I love that thing. We’re also doing some cool lightbar stuff that’s extremely subtle. If you didn’t look for it you wouldn’t see it: when your health’s low it’s pulsing red, when your super’s ready it’s flashing yellow, when you go into Hive areas it’s pale green. A lot of people aren’t going to notice it but it makes the experience richer, and when the fans notice that stuff we love it.”
Bakken also mentioned that Destiny will feature destructible terrain to some degree, but Bungie wont go overboard with this idea. “All those things are possible. Right now we’re just focusing on making sure the first game out of the gate has everything we want in it and is working awesome, and when we start talking about things that’ll happen in the future those kinds of ideas are great. We have those ideas, but we’re going to save that stuff for later.” Useful information was revealed regarding some of the other aspects of the game as well. It seems that in Destiny class equipment decisions are mainly cosmetic. Also, we found out that Heavy weapons include “launchers, rail guns, and HMGs” and that one of these weapons goes by the name of “Red River Mk.24”. Destiny will be released on September 9th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One. The beta testing phase for the game will begin in July and will be available on the PlayStation platforms first. Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates.
