T-Mobile announced a few days ago that it was releasing an update for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The update in question was meant to fix a bug that’s been plaguing S5 owners for some time now. The bug is causing incoming SMS and MMS failure, which can be quite annoying when you happen to be waiting for an important message and you suddenly realize that it’s not coming anymore.
Unfortunately, it seems this bug wont be fixed anytime soon as T-Mobile recently announced that the update has been stopped. The reason for this seems to be that the aforementioned update, dubbed G900TUVU1ANE5 was starting to be problematic and was causing more harm than good. A few of the users that managed to download and install the 131 megabyte update complained that they started experiencing decreased data speeds immediately after. According to Android Police, T-Mobile explained the situation with a couple of messages that were recently posted on the support page.
“The Samsung Galaxy S 5 Software update to G900TUVU1ANE5 via OTA or Kies has been paused. This post will be updated when further details are available.” “It appears that many users are having major download issues after updating to yesterday’s ANE5 update. Once the update is applied, download speeds are reduced to 1MB. T-Mobile may even have pulled the update. – Michael Aybinder, XDA.”
While we mentioned the update proved to be problematic, this wasn’t actually the case for everyone. Some users claim they haven’t experienced any problems whatsoever, while others apparently only have issues when switching to a non T-Mobile SIM. It is assumed the updated modem software might be to blame for the bug, but nothing is certain yet. Regardless, it’s nice to see that the company was so fast to react to the problem and hopefully they can also come up with a solution.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was released less than two months ago and is widely considered to be one of the best smartphones currently available on the market. A premium version of the device that goes by the name of Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is rumored to be currently in development. The handset is said to come with some pretty noticeable improvements over the regular version and will most likely try to compete with the upcoming LG G3. Needles to say, this recent issue might end up hurting Samsung devices sales and at the same time prove to be quite detrimental to T-Mobile. We’ll keep you up to date with any further developments so stay tuned.
