Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth has just come out this week. Along with the game’s release, a new launch trailer has been put out as well.
The launch trailer (seen below) shows off the characters that players will encounter during Persona Q. Unlike other Persona titles, Shadow of the Labyrinth features a chibi art style, turning many of the characters into cute versions of themselves. Despite this look, you can tell that this is a Persona title. Featuring characters from both Persona 3 and 4, this crossover title sees both the Investigation Team from the fourth game and the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES) from the third game trapped within Yasogami High School. Both sides team up to find a way out.
Along with the recognizable cast, Persona Q also features characters unique to the game. New characters Zen and Rei have lost their memories, and both teams believe that them regaining those memories will be the key to their freedom. While the game does have the Persona flair, there are many elements borrowed from another series by developer Atlus: Etrian Odyssey. The game is a dungeon-crawler, with the map of the dungeon filling in on the 3DS’ bottom screen as players go along. Details, such as the location of walls and chests, can be noted manually by the player.

Combat also shows a mix of Persona and Etrian Odyssey. Unlike the former, players create parties of 5 characters rather than 3. Like the Persona titles, however, a monster’s weakness can be taken advantage of to knock the enemy down. If all the opponents are knocked down, the party can do an all-out attack. Unlike the main series, all characters can equip multiple persona, rather than just the lead hero. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth is now available on the 3DS. Just recently the list of DLC items and their prices were released, seen here.
