Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be enjoying special treatment on last-gen PS3 and Xbox 360

BioWare’s next sequel, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition has certainly been seeing a lot of spotlight in the last period all throughout the gaming world. Fans had been able to learn first hand about an advanced AI system this new Dragon Age will be employing, along with a tweaked Frosbite 3 engine that is expected to make all the difference in terms of graphics detail. We’ve previously seen how the game moves on a powerful rig capable of taking it to FULL HD 1080p, and it must be said that Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is truly a looker. The same will be expected from next-gen PS4 and Xbox One consoles, but everybody seems to count out the forgotten old-gen PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Well, this is not the case anymore as Neil Thompson, the director of art and animation from BioWare has shared in an interview with VG247 that the dev team behind Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be channeling all their efforts towards giving players a great looking game on both gen 3 consoles PS3 and Xbox 360. “We’ve probably pushed them further than we ever have before. When you’re trying to take a gen 4 experience and put it on a gen 3 console without compromise then by necessity you’re pushing those consoles really hard,” Thompson told VG247. Clearly, the PS4 and Xbox One will have an advantage from the graphics standpoint, but the aesthetics of the game will be about the same on both generations of consoles. “It’s tough,” he added. “We want people to have the same satisfying experience no matter what platform they play it on. From a graphical perspective the gen 4 versions look more dense, but in terms of the aesthetic of the game they should be the same across platforms.”

Still, Thompson’s art and animation development team will be focusing on bringing an intriguing narrative into the game, and they will not throw in fancy visuals with no substance behind them. “We’re very keen that the art should always support the narrative rather than be in opposition to it. We try not to do anything that’s gratuitously there from an artistic perspective. It’s epic and grand but it has to have a point and the point is derived from the narrative.” Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be showcasing a much richer and more colorful environment compared to what we have seen in Dragon Age 2, with a Northern Renaissance touch to it. BioWare’s Frosbite 3 engine is something quite special, and it will allow developers to create an uncompromising game experience, with state of the art graphics and incredible detail. Frosbite 3 has already been employed by the secretive staff currently working on the new Mass Effect project. Surely the game will give it all its best for a last hurrah on the old-gen PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. We’ll have to wait till November to find out.
