The Nexus 7 is one of the most well-regarded compact tablets on the market, many appreciating the stock Android experience, great battery life and tons of features built into the tablet. One thing was missing, though: Android 4.4.4. Luckily the Nexus 7 is receiving the update today bringing some bug fixes and a few little tweaks to your tablet.
Google has also released the factory image for Android 4.4.4 yesterday, so that those of you who like to customize your devices can update their device. The Android 4.4.4 factory image will bypass a rooted device and give you back the original, out of the box OS the device came with. This leaves people with two options: you can either wait for the Android 4.4.4 update to roll out to your Nexus 7, or you can get the factory image from Google directly, and be done with it.
A factory image of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS will basically allow you to reset your device and will come in handy especially when you want to re-sell the device. It will also help out those who have installed various ROMs like Paranoid Android or CyanogenMod and the factory image will set your Nexus 7 back to stock Android. Be prepared to back up your data, though and if you aren’t familiar with flashing your device, you will have to learn how to. If you want to install the Android 4.4.4 factory image, you will have to have the fastboot tool installed on your computer and make sure you have up to date USB drivers for the Nexus 7. You will have to make sure your bootloader is unlocked and then execute the flash stock command using fastboot. Your Nexus 7 then should automatically reboot.
The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update has already rolled out to Sony’s Xperia line, including the Xperia Z, Z1, ZR, XL, Tablet Z, Motorola’s first gen Moto X, Moto G, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini and Droid Maxx, as well as to the Samsung Galaxy S5. The Android 4.4.4 changelog includes accuracy improvements to the power profiles, stability fixes, framework fixes and security fixes as well as an update to OpenSSL. The Nexus 7 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update full changelog hasn’t been published yet.
