Square Enix is currently undergoing a significant organizational restructuring, which appears to have affected the Dragon Quest franchise.
As per a recent report by Bloomberg, Yu Miyake, the esteemed producer behind Dragon Quest, will be relinquishing his role after facing setbacks with the latest installment. With a rich history of contributing to multiple Dragon Quest titles, Miyake, now 56 years old, has decided to step down from his position.
He is set to lead Square Enix’s Tokyo-based smart game division going forward. Miyake first joined the Japanese publisher and developer in 1992.
It is speculated that Yosuke Saito, the 53-year-old producer of NieR, will assume his role as the replacement. Saito is being considered a strong candidate for the role, as per sources from Bloomberg. It’s worth noting that Saito has previous experience as a producer on the Dragon Quest series, including Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
Takashi Kiryu has taken over as the new company president as part of this restructure. We’ll keep you informed if any major updates regarding the release date or platforms for Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate are revealed.
