An Highly Praised Microsoft Exclusive Is Coming to “Competitor System” This Year

Update: Jez Corden of Windows Central has confirmed these most recent rumors. His words were as follows:

“They say there’s no smoke without fire. I will say that it has been suggested to me from very trusted, proven sources that Microsoft has been exploring bringing some of its back catalog to other platforms, although some of the details remain vague and unconfirmed.

“Given the track record of lolilolailo, Nate, and my own sourcing on this, I think the rumors will probably pan out into reality — but until things are fully confirmed, remember to take this kind of stuff with a grain of salt.”

Original: It’s the beginning of a new year, and you can bet that speculation about future Nintendo game releases has already begun.

The most recent rumor has it that in 2024, a “competitor system” would launch a Microsoft game that has been “met with high critical acclaim” and got positive feedback from fans. ‘Nate the Hate Podcast’ host Nate makes this assertion and then says that the game was a “game of the year conversation” when it came out.

“In the calender year of 2024, Microsoft will bring one of their more acclaimed first-party releases to a competitor system…When the announcement comes, I think it’s going to be met with a lot of excitement, because this is a quality game.”

This source cites Obsidian’s narrative adventure Pentiment as an example of a game in Xbox’s environment that has reached its full potential; moving forward, the company plans to port similar games to other platforms in order to generate interest for potential sequels that will be exclusive to Microsoft devices.

The exclusive might be Tango Gameworks’ rhythm-based action game Hi-Fi Rush, according to some online discussion. The game was shadow-dropped on Xbox early last year and received numerous Game of the Year nominations. It is also purportedly backed by a member of ResetEra (‘lolilolailo’) who has a history of releasing Xbox-related information. There may be more games that meet the criteria, but, at this time, nothing is official.

In the last year, Xbox has reaffirmed its commitment to other platforms, including a deal to port Call of Duty titles to Nintendo systems in the future. Microsoft and Nintendo have collaborated to port GoldenEye 007 and other titles to the Switch.
