Control 2 is being developed by Remedy for the PS5, XSX, and PC

A Control sequel is being co-developed and co-published by 505 Games and Remedy, respectively.

The two companies revealed on Friday that Control 2 (formerly known as Codename Heron) will launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and be based on Remedy’s Northlight engine.

The game will be released by Remedy for the PC platform and by 505 Games for the console platforms. Currently, the project is just a notion.

In June 2021, Remedy first disclosed their intentions to create a “bigger-budget Control game.” In a statement on Friday, CEO Tero Virtala said, “I’m now proud to confirm that the bigger-budget Control game, also known as Codename Heron, is Control 2 a full-blown sequel to our award-winning game Control.”

In a statement, Control franchise game director Mikael Kasurinen said: “With Control, we ventured into the unknown. We were looking to innovate. something unique and unanticipated. a world that is unique. We appreciate your support in making Control a success for us, audience.

“With Control 2, we’ll venture further into uncharted territory. The trip will be unexpected. Although it will take some time, I can safely say that this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. Although it’s still early, the wait will be worthwhile.

The co-CEOs of Digital Bros Group/505 Games, Rami and Raffi Galante, continued, “We are eager to expand our partnership with Remedy and jointly continue the success narrative of Control. Over 3 million copies of Control have been sold since its 2019 release.

“Control has a particular place in our hearts since it is the largest investment 505 Games has ever made. We are incredibly appreciative of the whole player base for helping to make Control such a beloved and enduring game, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to release Control 2.

Remedy is developing further franchise entries in addition to Control 2. A co-operative multiplayer spin-off game set in the same universe, now under development by Remedy’s “Vanguard” studio under the codename Condor, was previously mentioned by the company.

Last year, Control’s game director Mikael Kasurinen made an effort to allay any worries Remedy fans might have about the studio making a rare foray into multiplayer gaming via an official blog post.

“We understand that there will be doubts about multiplayer. However, Kasurinen said, “I think we can make shared experiences without compromising the distinctive DNA of who we are or the tales we want to convey.

“Yes, we must reconsider our strategies, tactics, and frame of mind, but we view this as a thrilling challenge: What would a multiplayer Remedy game look like?

“The Vanguard team has already made fantastic progress in that area, and the opportunities there are really promising. Control and Condor are two distinct instances of how you can all experience our worlds together.

We approach this situation with a sense of both excitement and reverence. We want to develop something that any of our followers can get into and feel at home in, something that is both interesting and comfortable. Together.”

The spooky action adventure game was hailed by VGC’s Control review as “Remedy’s finest work since the original Max Payne.”
