Prior to the start of its ranked mode alpha test, MultiVersus teases competitive gaming

MultiVersus, a free-to-play licensed brawler from Warner Bros., will test its ranked mode for a week starting today, according to developers Player First Games. The rated tab will be available for the first time when you get into the game starting at 5pm GMT/6pm CET/9am PT today. If you choose that, ranked play should be no problem for you. When Player First has implemented any helpful comments from the alpha, they say they’ll permanently enable ranked mode.

Season two of MultiVersus is about to start, and it conveniently does so on November 15th, just as the ranked mode test is coming to an end. With the addition of Black Adam and the arcade mode towards the end of October, all of season one’s promised characters are now included in the fighting game. Although Player First hasn’t officially announced any new characters for MultiVersus’ second season yet, I’m still holding out hope that Batman’s foe The Joker, portrayed by cartoon series actor Mark Hamill, will soon make an appearance.

In relation to rankings, we recently included MultiVersus on our list of the top free PC games. When MultiVersus first entered open beta last summer, Ed gave it a try and concluded that being free had helped the game escape the shadow of Smash Bros. This is huge! It still has a degree of quality that is superior to any free-to-play Smash-likes, despite my reservations, he added. Learn to navigate the game’s onslaught of boxes and cooldowns, and you’ll be left with a fantastic fighting game that will continue to improve over time.

Downloading MultiVersus is completely free on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. I’ll keep you informed when ranked mode becomes permanently accessible.
