Top 12 Grossing Steam Games Announced

One thing we as gamers always seem to enjoy are rankings of games. We already had the Steam Awards, in which we decided which games were best from a personal perspective. But the best game isn’t always the best grossing game, and Valve seems to have noticed this. They have announced the top 100 grossing games for 2016 in a nonspecific order. They are categorized into four tiers, the top three containing a dozen games each, the last all the rest. The specific ranking of grossing is not made clear, as it is randomized.

In the top twelve, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Civilization VI, Dark Souls 3, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, Rocket League, Tom Clancy’s The Division, Total War: Warhammer, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, XCOM 2, and No Man’s Sky can all be found. It is worth noting that this is for the best grossing game, not the best selling. DLC and microtransactions count in the game’s favor, which is why the F2P DOTA 2 is included. Notable games from the second most grossing tier include Team Fortress 2, Stardew Valley, Doom, Dead by Daylight, and Stellaris

It’s worth pointing out that these games are not immune to controversy. No Man’s Sky hardly needs an explanation for how it managed to anger gamers. The number of Steam reviews make it clear that a good number of people did buy it, but they seem to not be happy customers. To a lesser extent, Total War Warhammer also achieved some ire. While many players seem to enjoy the game, they are less than thrilled about the game’s DLC practices. Despite not being out for a full year, it already has over sixty dollars in DLC. Effectively doubling the price of the game for those who want the full version. Despite this, both of them earned their place in the top twelve grossing games. The rest can be checked here.
