The rumored latest installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series has been officially announced today at PlayStation Experience, and it will be called Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The crossover fighting game will feature Arcade, Training, Mission, and Story single player modes. The Story Mode will reportedly “put players at the center of both universes as they battle for supremacy against powerful forces and a new villain.” As for multiplayer, Infinite will sport online ranked and casual matches, global leaderboards, and lobbies with spectator mode.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will also incorporate a new gameplay feature for the series: Infinity Stones (which are from Marvel lore). The Infinity Stones will be used to sway the battle in favor of the player using them. Each of these stones will represent a different aspect of the universe, such as power, space, time, reality, soul, and mind.
As in previous entries in the series, players will have a variety of Marvel and Capcom characters to choose from in the new game. Some of the characters already announced are Iron Man, Captain America, Ryu, and Mega Man X, with more characters to be revealed in the future. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is being developed with Unreal Engine 4 and is slated for a “Late 2017” release window in North America and Europe. Check the full details of the announcement on the official PlayStation blog, including where and when to see an extended trailer for the game.
