The popular Kingdom Hearts series is back with a new game featuring three titles from the series. The high-definition remastered collection will include the original Kingdom Hearts X story and an aftermath plot – from the standpoint of Aqua – that follows the events that occur in Birth by Sleep, also titled A Fragmentary Passage. The new game also includes Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and two original pieces of content. The first game’s release date was on March 28, 2002 in Japan and on September 17, 2002 in North America and European territories for the Playstation 2. Since then, Square Enix has continued to release sequels and numerous games, all of which have been incredibly successful.
The first game told an unprecedented story that featured a crossover of Disney characters and settings. The narrative was set around three characters, Sora, Riku, and Kairi who make plans to leave their home, situated in the Destiny Islands, in order to journey to new worlds. They create a raft in order to fulfil their endeavour; however, one evening dark beings called Heartless attack the Destiny Islands, and during the attack, Riku and Kairi vanish. In the meantime, Sora receives the Keyblade – a tool for defeating the Heartless – but the Heartless decimate the Destiny Islands and Sora ends up drifting in space. On another world, King Mickey leaves his own world in the hope of defeating the rising horde of Heartless. King Mickey instructs Goofy and Donald to locate the ‘key’, a weapon that will fight of the approaching forces of darkness in order to protect the worlds. Donald and Goofy arrive at Traverse Town, where Sora has drifted and after the three meet, they decide to traverse the worlds together in the hope of locating King Mickey, Kairi, and Riku. Their adventures begin here! The series continues to evolve and improve with the passing of time; the three factors that continue to contribute to the series success include the beautiful and emotive soundtrack, fantastic graphics, and the Disney settings.
