Sales numbers from september are starting to show themselves and the results are quite surprising. Head of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg confirmed on Twitter that the Xbox One had been September’s best selling console in the United States, according to the NPD Group (Which researches markets from over twenty countries), which likewise meant that the Xbox One had been No.1 for three months in a row. But even more shocking news came from the United Kingdom and their market researchers (Gfk Chart-Track), which revealed that the Xbox One managed to be the No.1 selling console in those territories as well.
Numbers were unknown to the public until a Twitter account that goes by the username “AstronautClaire” released a lot of information regarding the north american numbers. Apparently the Xbox One sold 332,000 units during the month of September, while the PlayStation 4 sold 285,300 units during the same month. Sales of Microsoft’s latest console are up 13% when compared to last September, while the latest PlayStation went down 19%. The most interesting part about this result is that the PlayStation 4 got a $50 price drop in the beginning of month that made the console have the same price as the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 Slim released on September 15th, but even those efforts couldn’t stop the Xbox.
The main reason for the Xbox’s renewed success has been the launch of the Xbox One S on August, which was incredibly well received and it gave the Xbox One a new image along consumers thanks to fancier design, HDR support, and the most important factor when it comes to selling units, the 4K blu-ray support.
Other news regarding September sales include the fact that Xbox Exclusive Forza Horizon 3 sold around 150,000 units with only 5 days in the market, which is really impressive for the franchise, on a more negative side, the concept developed and Xbox Exclusive ReCore hasn’t even reached 50,000 physical sales, which means that another new intellectual property from Microsoft flopped, along with Quantum Break and Ryse: Son of Rome, it’s worrying because that could mean bad news for their other projects like Scalebound and Sea of Thieves.
