What can we learn from the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer?

If there is anything that can be assumed about the holiday season of 2015, it’s that it’s going to be a busy couple of months. Between Fallout 4, Halo 5, and a new Star Wars movie coming out, there’s bound to be something for everyone. And as if the hype machine couldn’t get any busier, a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer came out, potentially showing off what kind of a story we can expect.

So what can we assume from all the trailers that have been released thus far?

It is likely that the movie starts off with Finn blasting out of a Star Destroyer’s hangar in an act of desertion. Of course, he gets shot down above Jakku and meets Rey. As Finn is a potential Force user, Kylo Ren is called in to exterminate him, at least if the Empire’s tradition of wiping out Force users is still alive and strong in the First Order.

Kylo Ren then leads an assault upon Jakku, where the local resistance is promptly crushed. Unfortunately for Ren, Finn and Ray likely escape with Han Solo, but not for long. Solo is captured, brought to the aptly named Starkiller Base, and is shown a demonstration of the First Order’s power. Solo escapes again, makes his way to the Resistance base on whatever the new “green” planet is (which is attacked by the First Order), and they launch an all out assault on Starkiller Base, where Finn and Ren have a final duel.

Such a storyline would fit into the general flow of the original Star Wars movies that The Force Awakens is likely trying to emulate because after all, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
