Remember when Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was confirmed for the Xbox One? Well, you need remember no longer, because you can read all about it right now instead. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has been confirmed for the Xbox One again. A listing for the game recently appeared on the website of the Brazilian Advisory Rating System, as reported by IGN. The website notes its Ano de Produção as 2015. My Portuguese is about as good as my ability to speak Cat or Table. But, to me, at least, that says the game will be out some time this year.
Official confirmation from Microsoft or its developer Splash Damage has still not arrived. But the Brazilian Advisory system appears to be going all out in this area at the moment, also seemingly confirming a Dishonored Definitive Edition. Taken alongside the previous leaks, this seems to confirm that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is happening. Information on the actual content of the game is harder to come by, beyond the multiplayer screenshots seen before by Polygon. It seems likely that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be a remaster of the first game with improved graphics.
An all-new Gears of War 4 has of course been coming for some time but without any real confirmation of its features. New developers, Black Tusk, have taken over from the series’s old overlords Epic Games, with Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production at Epic on the Gears of War series, jumping ship from one company to the other. Without Fergusson’s addition, Black Tusk otherwise might seem to lack experience. Until recently, the studio were known as Microsoft Studios Vancouver (much catchier) and were best known for their work on a free-to-play Microsoft Flight that was never released and a Kinect family game. All that we really know is that the game won’t appear on the Xbox 360.
