Capcom’s Street Fighter V has two big new pieces of news today as reported on Capcom Unity. First of all, Charlie Nash, originator of the Sonic Boom, will be returning to the roster. Nash is a fan favorite of the Street Fighter franchise. He was first mentioned in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior- he had been a lieutenant in the US Air Force and one of the best friends Guile. In Street Fighter Alpha II, Nash was shown shot in the back by a helicopter controlled by M.Bison, before falling off a waterfall and disappearing. While presumed dead since then, Charlie Nash will make his return in Street Fighter V, if slightly different than before. His body parts, for instance, are sewn together like Frankenstein’s Monster. The jewel on his forehead also seems to hint that some type of magic was used to bring him back to life- it also appears to grant Nash a teleportation ability.
The other exciting update for Street Fighter V is the announcement of “the largest and most ambitious online beta program in franchise history.” Capcom is implementing this beta in order to collect user feedback and “ensure that Street Fighter V is the best iteration yet.” The process of enrolling in the beta is relatively simple. In North America, all you have to do is pre-order the game and you’ll automatically join the beta program. More details about timing of the beta program are forthcoming.
Street Fighter has been a popular franchise since the release of its first game back in 1987, and it has become Capcom’s second best selling franchise. The games have a complex mythology that has led to some of the most recognizable characters in the gaming industry. Street Fighter V does not yet have an official release date, but it is being released exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PC.
