Game publisher Koei Tecmo has released a new Bladestorm: Nightmare trailer. While it has been labeled as an ‘announcement’ trailer, it’s unclear what it’s supposed to be announcing as the existence of the game and its release date have been public knowledge for a while now.
The new Bladestorm: Nightmare trailer gives a look at both some cut-scenes and battles, making it worth a watch, but it seems to be more of a reminder of the game’s upcoming release rather than a reveal of something the public didn’t already know before. The most recent new info was about the game’s mercenary creation mode where players can customize the look of their units. Niche Gamer reported that the system seems complex with a variety of options for customization. The video demo for the customization system is, tellingly, around thirty minutes long.
Bladestorm: Nightmare is the follow-up to Bladestorm released back in 2007. The strategy and tactics game was developed by Omega Force. The player takes the role of a mercenary and chooses to fight for either England or France during The Hundred Years’ War- a drawn out conflict that lasted from 1337 to 1453.
However, the game features a stand-alone campaign based in fiction called Nightmare. The developers say that Bladestorm: Nightmare is essentially a two-part game. The Bladestorm side is a historically accurate depiction of The Hundred Year’s War while the Nightmare side is a fictional scenario with elements of fantasy that takes place in the same world and time frame. The two scenarios don’t seem to be connected, so they can be played in any order.
Bladestorm: Nightmare is being released on March 17 in North America and March 20 in Europe for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3 systems. The PlayStation 3 version will be available for purchase in digital form only.
