The Motorola Droid Maxx and Droid Turbo are two Verizon exclusive smartphones that have swept Motorola fans away with their durable, powerful construction and near-flawless performance. Now, all we have to look forward to if we own one or both these handsets is Android 5.0 Lollipop and it’s supposedly coming soon. The soak testing has already begun on the Droid Turbo but there’s little news about when the Motorola Droid Maxx will be getting an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Suffice it to say that both the Motorola Droid Maxx and Droid Turbo will eventually get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update by the time we hit Valentine’s Day. That is an estimate, but since the Moto X and Moto G rollout is almost complete on a global scale, it would be the next jump for the OTA to hit these two devices. We should be hearing about the Motorola Droid Maxx soak test soon enough, probably by the first week of February.
Everybody is sick and tired of hearing that Lollipop is coming soon to their device, but fact of the matter is all companies and Google as well are very silent about the rollout schedule. That is because the rollout is performed in stages, which means that the update will go from device to device and from region to region. The European HTC One M8 devices are already receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop, while the U.S. is still waiting for the update to be released to carrier versions of the metal-clad flagship. That should be enough proof of how a staggered rollout works, and it applies to all companies.
Carriers have to make their own changes and Verizon has been pretty timely with Android updates in the past. We should expect the Motorola Droid Maxx and Droid Turbo handsets to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop before other Motorola devices, although the Moto E is statistically the next device to benefit from the Material Design treatment. We can but estimate at this point, so take the dates we provided with a grain of salt. Another estimation flying around the internet is that the Motorola Droid Maxx won’t be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop until May, but that seems a bit far-fetched. The latest we suppose the update should start at least a regional rollout for the Motorola Droid Maxx is March.
