As Google is pushing out newer versions of Android Lollipop onto most of its own smartphones (the Nexus line), major smartphone manufacturers are also working on tweaking the new OS versions and tailoring them to their own UI versions. HTC is obviously among them, and while the company is not known to push out Android updates to its phones extremely fast, they’re usually reliable and relatively bug-free. Most industry insiders believed that HTC would skip Lollipop 5.0.2 altogether for most of its smartphones, and this seems to be confirmed by a new Vietnamese leak. According to Vietnam-based source HTC Viet, HTC will be focusing on the more significant Lollipop 5.1 update, revealing an update schedule chart for the most important HTC smartphones.
As expected, the update will be coming to HTC flagships early in 2015, but no exact dates or timeframes have been known so far. The middle/end of February seems to be the targeted roll-out window for the HTC One M8 and One M7, with the company’s other older or mid-ranged phones getting the update within the next months. The HTC One M7 and M8 are already poised to receive the intermediary Android Lollipop 5.0.2 version at the end of January, with the next, more major version of the OS arriving in about a month. Below are the target estimated launch windows for 5.1, based on smartphone model. While the source is unofficial, it is usually reliable, and the information coincides with updates to Lollipop rolling out for other major smartphone makers.
