Some might find it hard to believe that Assassin’s Creed 6 was already in the works by the time Assassin’s Creed Unity came out, but for Ubisoft this is just business as usual. In fact, the next title was in development for the last few years according to Ubisoft themselves. Whether people are still interested in the series and its mandatory annual installment or not that’s for each individual to decide, but the fact of the matter is that Assassin’s Creed 6 was leaked and that’s what we’re here to talk about today.
First off, the upcoming title is said to go by the name of Assassin’s Creed Victory, which would be fitting given that it’s set to take place in Victorian London during the 19th century. However, with the game being so far away from launch things may very well change in the meantime, so I wouldn’t necessarily bet my money on that name just yet. Ubisoft didn’t reveal any important details regarding the title except that it’s being primarily handled by their Quebec studio. Aside from that, all we know about Assassin’s Creed 6 comes from the leaked gameplay footage and screenshots, which all look really good all things considered. Actually, it seems like a large part of the game has already been completed so it’s a bit strange that it’s only scheduled to release in Fall 2015. Then again, Ubisoft has no real reason to drift away from their usual launch schedule.
Speaking of releases, it seems that this time around we won’t be getting a combo launch like we had this year with Unity and Rogue. Instead, Assassin’s Creed 6 will be the only AC title to come out this year. Also, Assassin’s Creed Victory will be the first game in the series exclusive to the next generation of consoles, namely PS4 and Xbox One. A PC version is also pretty much certain of course. The leaked footage does show a beautiful Victorian London and there’s no denying that Ubisoft Quebec paid a lot of attention to details and graphical fidelity here, but I, for one, am still not convinced. After the abysmal quality of Assassin’s Creed Unity at launch, Ubisoft now really needs to prove that they are capable of releasing a product that’s functional from the get-go. We already know they can make good-looking games, so that was never an issue. Luckily, the Quebec studio still has a pretty good reputation – at least when compared to the Montreal branch – so there’s still some hope left. And with the game only launching in Fall, there’s plenty of time to make Assassin’s Creed Unity 6 work like a charm right off the bat.
Gameplay-wise, fans shouldn’t expect a whole lot of innovation here, although the game will reportedly bring a couple of new combat mechanics to the table. As for the protagonist, we only know that it’s a male assassin yet again and that he’s wearing an outfit that makes him look pretty out of place in the given context. There’s not a whole lot else to go on at the moment, but word on the street is that we’ll be treated with a trailer and given all the info we need on Assassin’s Creed 6 at E3 2015. This year the Electronic Entertainment Expo will take place between June 16-18 in Los Angeles. Stay tuned as we’ll be keeping you up to date with all the new details the moment we hear them ourselves.
