Black Desert is the upcoming MMORPG from developer Pearl Abyss. The game is in beta at the moment, and recently had a new class revealed: the Tamer.
With the beta going strong overseas, we got a glimpse of a new class that is coming to Black Desert: the Tamer. Coming this month, the trailer (seen below) for the Tamer does not reveal much. What we do see is that she will be a close combat character. We also see her on her dark beast mount, which she can fight on. She will be joining a number of other classes in Black Desert, including Sorceress, Ranger, Blader, Valkyrie, and Wizard. New classes will be revealed in the coming months, which may include rumored female blader and ninja classes.
In development since 2010, Black Desert is a sandbox MMORPG by Korean developer Pearl Abyss. The game uses Pearl Abyss’ “Black Desert” game engine, which was created to handle the seamless world and large-scale castle sieges. The game will be free-to-play, though there is no details on the game’s business model. Black Desert will not use the tab-targeting system that other MMORPGs implement, but will instead use a system requiring manual aiming, dodging, and comboing. The game allows for extensive character customization. There will be PvP, including mounted combat against other players. This creates an interesting dynamic that requires skill and precision. There will also be castle sieges, which are PvP events that will pit guilds against each other. There will be minigames, which include playing music, pigeon shooting, and fishing. There will be a day/night cycle, with certain NPCs appearing depending on what time of day it is. This can also change the game content depending on the time, such as which monsters show up, and how many.
Black Desert is currently in beta. The game will release in the west in 2016. The game will be available for PC. There have been talks for a possible PlayStation 4 version.
