Even though Lenovo smartphones usually don’t make it to the states, the company still has a few great devices up its sleeves, which it demoed at CES 2015 yesterday. The Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro is the newest bordering high-end, layered smartphone from the Chinese company, while the Lenovo P90 is more of a phablet with a massive battery. Both these phones are looking great, but the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro design is one to smile at in my mind.
I personally enjoy when smartphone makers try to make their handsets as unique as possible, letting go of conventions, like BlackBerry did with the Passport, Lenovo tries to leave its mark on the smartphone industry with the newest release and even though we’ve already seen the layered design they use, it still is refreshing to know that you can actually get a multi-colored smartphone without having to buy a case or a skin for it.
The Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro is a premium handset that can rival many metal-clad smartphones out there with it full-metal chassis and its trio of colorful layers showing on the sides of the phone. The handset is quite the feast for the eyes, with thin bezels, capacitative buttons (my favorite kinds of buttons) and vibrant color options that take me back to the times when I was fascinated by jawbreakers and bubblegum. I might seem overly enthusiastic, but I genuinely love the design of the smartphone.
When it comes to specs, the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro doesn’t disappoint, bringing a premium build packed with competent hardware. The handset has a 5.3 inch display with a 1080*1920 resolution, powered by a 64 bit Snapdragon 615 CPU backed by 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. While that’s not too impressive, the dual nano-SIM slots and 4G LTE modem are noteworthy, not to mention the camera setup. Lenovo packed two 13 MP sensor on this baby, one of the front and on the rear, the latter equipped with an LED flash. While we would have liked the device to run on Google’s latest Lollipop treatment, we only get Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Vibe UI 2.0 at the moment.
The handset is powered by a rather small 2410 mAh battery and its size is pretty admirable. The Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro measures 146.3*71*6.95 and weighs 140 grams, which makes it a pretty lightweight, thin device. Those layers look great on such a compact body and make the phone look truly stylish. The price on the device isn’t very attractive, though, the company saying it will cost $500 unlocked once it launches in April. The Chinese company also mentioned that the fashionable smartphone won’t be available in the U.S., sadly.
The other model Lenovo launched at CES is the slightly bigger and more standard, Lenovo P90. This one is for those of you are into the phablet trend but want a humongous battery so that you won’t have to recharge each day. The Lenovo P90 sports a 5.5 inch display with a 1080*1920 resolution and packs a 64 bit Intel Atom Z3560 CPU backed by 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, which means it’s represented, mostly by the Asus ZenFone 2 and ZenFone Zoom in the US. Besides the great specs, the Lenovo P90 also packs a 13 MP camera on the front with optical image stabilization and an LED flash and a 5 MP shooter on the front.
All of this is backed by Android 4.4.4 KitKat and a massive 4000 mAh battery. This smartphone will be launched in February and will retail for $370, which is quite the attractive price in my mind compared to the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro. The similarities between the P90 and Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro are pretty many, but the differences in design, camera features and processing power are what sets them apart. Each of them caters to a different type of audience, so which one would you choose and why?
