PlanetSide 2 has been around on PC for a couple of years. Now, some gamers will be able to get a taste of the PlayStation 4 version of the game in January.
On Twitter, Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley confirmed that the PlanetSide 2 beta for the PlayStation 4 will land in January 2015. The closed beta will begin either the week of January 13th or January 20th. Smedley does mention that the PlanetSide 2 beta passed by Sony’s submission process on its first try. Other than the confirmation that the beta is coming, not much else was revealed. It was mentioned, however, that more news will be coming next week on January 5th. Gamers can sign up for a chance to be a part of the beta here.
A free-to-play MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2 sees massive amounts of gamers battling each other for territory. A battle can last for days, with players trying to control as much as possible. This includes bases, ammo depots, and power plants, all of which have long-lasting effects that can change the tide of battle. Players must coordinate with each other and strategize if they want any chance to come out victorious. There are three different factions that players can choose to fight for: New Conglomerate, Terran Republic, and Vanu Sovereignty. There are a number of classes to choose from, and a number of possible loadouts to take into battle. There is a variety of vehicles that players can pilot on the battlefield, ranging from tanks, light vehicles, and various airborne vehicles. Taking place on the planet of Auraxis, there are four continents that players will find themselves fighting on: Indar, Esamir, Amerish, and Hossin. While PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play title, there are a variety of things that gamers can purchase if they choose to.
PlanetSide 2 is available for PC at the moment. The game will come to the PlayStation 4 soon.
