A new budget-friendly Galaxy Tab 5 seems to be in the works from Samsung and the slate should be akin to the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, which wasn’t impressive, but it was pretty cheap for its size. The new Galaxy Tab 5 is supposed to be a 10 inch tablet, but Samsung is reportedly working on a dirt-cheap 7 inch tablet as well. The Galaxy Tab 5 should be priced at $350, if it is indeed launched in the near future, while the 7 inch compact tablet will go for $100 if it’s actually a real product.
According to a report from The Netherlands, Samsung sent prototypes of the Galaxy Tab 5 and the cheap compact tablet to India for testing and that’s how the price and display info got out in the open. While we don’t know how true these rumors are, we would like to see the two new tablets from Samsung as they would tap into current trends in the large-screened tablet market, as well as the compact tablet market. Alongside model number SM-T555, the Galaxy Tab 5 specs have also been leaked suggesting a 64 bit Snapdragon 410 CPU and Android 5.0 Lollipop, naturally. The smaller 7 inch tablet specs include a quad core 1.2 GHz Spreadtrum SC8830, 1 GB RAM and Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
The Galaxy Tab 5 as well as the 7 inch compact slate should be made available sometime in late Spring or early Summer 2015, but until then, we don’t know whether these devices will be region-exclusive or what kind of actual specs they will come with. The price tags are pretty friendly on both the slates and might make for successful entry on emerging markets as well as the global tablet market, but we hope Samsung manages to include some special effects (read better design). In any case, take these rumors with a grain of salt, since the info hasn’t been confirmed by company officials and the transportation logs and reports coming in seem a bit sketchy at the moment. We might hear some official word about the Galaxy Tab 5 at CES 2015 or MWC 2015 where Samsung should be debuting the Galaxy S6.
