Square Enix explains Final Fantasy Agito+'s delay

Final Fantasy Agito Delay Explained

Final Fantasy Agito was a free-to-play JRPG for mobile devices in Japan. The game was being ported over to the PS Vita, but was delayed this past October. Now, Square Enix has revealed the reason for the delay in the latest issue of Famitsu.

Speaking with Famitsu, director Hajime Tabata had this to say about Final Fantasy Agito’s delay: “We discovered a big problem within the development environment, and inevitably had to delay the game. This is a problem within the development environment of PS Vita, and there’s not much more that we can do as a company. Right now, we’re waiting for an update to the development environment, as well as support from Sony Computer Entertainment. As soon as we can pinpoint a release date, we’ll announce it at a later time.”

Originally free-to-play, Final Fantasy Agito first released on mobile devices in Japan in 2014. The game occurs within the universe of Final Fantasy Type-0. In Agito, players create their own custom character who is simply known as the “Cadet.” Players choose gender, physical appearance, clothing, voice, skin tone, hair color, and weapons. Unlike Type-0, combat is turn-based, though players can execute chains. Final Fantasy Agito uses a job system like previous Final Fantasy titles, with different skills going with different jobs. While there will be a few differences in the game, such as control scheme, the Vita version of Final Fantasy Agito will essentially stay the same as the mobile version. The game features a day-night cycle tied to the real-world, and includes a social element where befriending certain characters advances the player’s ranking in the game.

Final Fantasy Agito will be released on the PS Vita. There is no release date or window at the time. The game goes alongside Final Fantasy Type-0, which will see a HD release on March 17th, 2015.
