Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn held the Fan Festival 2014 in Tokyo. At this Festival, a few new things coming to the game in the upcoming expansion were revealed.
At the Fan Festival, a few things were shown that players can expect to experience when the Heavensward expansion hits next year. The first thing revealed was a new playable race: the Au Ra. This race is a Final Fantasy XIV exclusive race, and have been seen before with the character Yugiri. This race has curved horns and scale-like skin on parts of their bodies. The males of this race have muscular builds, while the females are more elegant. Heavensward will feature a new theme composed by long-time Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. There will also be a new flying mount, which is a dragon that you befriend during the game’s plot.
Also revealed were two new jobs for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The first is the Astrologian. This class is a healer class, and draw cards as well as cast spells. The weapon of choice for this class is called the “Star Globe.” No base class is required for this job, and can be played from the start. The second job is the Machinist, which uses guns. They are able to modify their guns, and can use mechanical turrets in battle. Like the Astrologian, no base class is required for this job. The new raid revealed is the mechanical Alexander. A massive mechanical fortress, Alexander is not fought from the outside, but rather from within. The dungeon is summoned by goblins, and is unlocked after the end of the main scenario of Heavensward. The raid has both normal and hard difficulties. Clearing the Binding Coil of Bahamut is not required for this primal battle.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available for PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The expansion, Heavensward, will release in 2015.
