Steins;Gate is considered to be one of the greatest visual novels of all time. Now, American PlayStation 3 and PS Vita owners will get to experience the title sometime next year.
It has been announced that Steins;Gate will be releasing in North America and Europe on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita system sometime in 2015. The game has already been released on PC in America, but this will be the first time that it will be available on console outside of Japan. Steins;Gate follows a group of tech-savvy young students who discover how to change the past via text message using a modified microwave. The group’s experiments on how far they can go begins to spiral out of control as they become entangled in a conspiracy surrounding SERN, the organization behind the Large Hadron Collider, and John Titor, a mysterious forum poster who claims to be from a dystopian future.
An award winning science-fiction interactive visual novel, Steins;Gate has received critical acclaim, and was voted to be one of the most “tear-inducing games” ever in a Famitsu poll. The game has spawned sequels, an anime series, and a manga series. The game originally released on the Xbox 360 in Japan, and has branched out to several other systems.
As a visual novel, Steins;Gate requires little interaction from the player. Interaction takes place through the “phone trigger” system, where players can receive calls and text messages and decide whether or not to reply to them, changing the game’s plot. Incoming text messages will have specific words underlined and highlighted in blue, where the player can select to respond to the message. Depending on the player’s choices on how to respond to these calls and texts, the game’s plot will progress in a certain direction.
Steins;Gate is available for PC. The game will be releasing on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita sometime in 2015.
