Hearthstone now on Android Tablets thanks to Blizzard. This morning, via press release, Activision Blizzard announced that the free to play card game would be releasing in select regions for Android users. Specifically it will be available through the Google Play and Amazon Appstore. The only regions that have access right now are Canada, Australia and New Zealand but a worldwide release will be rolled out by the end of the week.
Hearthstone was first released on PC in March of this year, then saw release on iOS devices in April and Windows touch tablets in August. A closed beta launched in 2013 and the game missed its initial release date but opened up the beta for everyone. Android devices make up a large majority of the worldwide market, taking up more than 80%.
Cofoundr and CEO of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime welcomed Android users into the Hearthstone community, stating, “Hearthstone’s intuitive interface and approachable design make it a perfect fit for tablets, and we’ve put a lot of effort into ensuring players have a great experience on a wide range of Android devices. We’re excited to welcome Android players to the Hearthstone community, and we’re looking forward to bringing the game to even more mobile platforms—including phones—in the future.”
Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft is promoted as a easy to learn digital card game where you can battle online or against AI opponents. It received great critical reception and currently has a 88 out of 100 on Metacritic for the PC version, with the iOS version ranked even higher at 93 out of 100. Hearthstone also received an adventure mode called Curse of Naxxramas which introduced 30 new cards to the game. The first expansion, dubbed Goblins vs Gnomes was released on December 8 and introduced 120 cards to the title. Regular players can purchase the cards included in these packs using real-world currency, craft them using ingame items or earn them through the Arena mode.
Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft is free for download and will be coming to iPhone and Android phone versions sometime in 2015.
