Samsung Galaxy S6 likely to get a release date at CES 2015

The Samsung Galaxy S6 could be announced sooner than anticipated according to the Korean media. A local publication claims that Samsung will stray away from the usual routine this time around and announce their new flagship smartphone in January. In past years, the Korean tech giant waited until at least February to make similar announcements, but they apparently can’t afford to do that anymore due to the increasingly fierce competition. Word on the street is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015, which will take place between Januray 6-9. It’s customary to announce a release date whenever a new product is unveiled, therefore we believe that Samsung will tell us when to expect the device at the show.

Interestingly, the company is said to announce yet another smartphone in January alongside the Samsung Galaxy S6. This new handset will reportedly be an “Edge” variant of the S6, similar in concept with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. This variant has not been confirmed by Samsung, so take this with a grain of salt, but if does end up to be true, the Edge will likely be identical to the regular version save for the display. The screen on the regular Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to measure 5.5-inches and feature 1440 x 2560 resolution. It’s a bit strange that Samsung would make the phone so big, but the company was probably inspired by the success of recent large smartphones and wanted to release one more of their own.

As for the hardware, word on the street is that the device will come equipped with the Exynos 7420 octa-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, and 20 MP primary camera. While this hasn’t been confirmed either, it’s pretty safe to assume that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be powered by the Android Lollipop operating system. Hopefully we’ll get to hear all the official details, including the release date at the CES 2015.
