There is a new playable Witcher 3 character and her name is Ciri. Players will not be able to freely switch between her and Geralt. Instead, you will take control of her during specific story moments, which will be very significant portions of the plot. Ciri herself is connected to a long lost elven blood lineage and was featured in the recent trailer for The Witcher 3. Ciri also has ties to Geralt, and is being pursued by The Wild Hunt, a group of mythical riders. Joining in on the hunt for her is the Nilfgaard Empire, the most powerful kingdom in the Witcher universe. Ciri was trained by Geralt to eventually become a part of the Witchers, a group of people trained to slay monsters that threaten the populace. Ciri is regarded as a living weapon, which is why all these factions want to control her. One of her most powerful abilities is to blink from existence in order to escape attacks. Robert Malinowski of CD Projekt Red confirmed that Geralt is still the focus of the story. Ciri has her own motivations and a plotline that will give the player a better perspective on the overall story. This reason was the main one cited when he discussed the decision to make Ciri a new playable Witcher 3 character.
CD Projekt Red recently delayed The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt to May 19, 2015. The motivation behind the delay was to make sure The Witcher 3 wasn’t the latest triple A title to be released somewhat broken, echoing the recent releases of Halo The Master Chief Collection and Assassin’s Creed Unity, which were both criticized for having many bugs that hurt the gameplay. In Halo’s case, you couldn’t play the multiplayer online for the first day and is still experiencing troubles. Hopefully The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt will be playable at launch early next year.
