Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is a strategy classic that released for the PC 15 years ago. To celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary, Ubisoft will be rereleasing the game soon.
According to a blog post, Ubisoft will be giving Heroes of Might and Magic 3 the HD treatment early next year. Fans of the series get to relive the title with enhanced graphics that will now fit wide screens. The HD edition will offer seven campaigns, 48 skirmish maps, a local multiplayer mode, and a map editor (only on the PC version). A new online multiplayer Steam lobby will also be available for players to share their experiences with fellow Heroes of Might and Magic fans. Erwan le Breton, creative director of the Might and Magic series, had this to say: “Community is at the core of the Might and Magic series, and we wanted to thank their everlasting support by bringing back the epic tale of Queen Catherine Ironfist. We wanted to keep the heart of what made Heroes 3 one of the most renowned titles of the series, while providing an enhanced visual experience and offering the possibility to also play the game on tablets.”
Originally released in 1999, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was a critically acclaimed strategy title. The game allowed players to pick one of eight castle types, each with their own types of units and strategies. Players traverse a world map while taking on their enemies in turn-based tactical combat. Players level up their heroes, teaching them new skills and spells as they go along. Troops are purchased at castles and special buildings on the over world map by using various resources. The game spawned two expansions, which each added new maps and units to the game.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 HD will release on January 29, 2015. The game will be available for the PC, Android, and iOS.
