Final Fantasy XI has been online now for 11 years. Despite this, Square Enix has released another update for the still ongoing title.
The update for Final Fantasy XI will add a few new things to the game. The first are new quests that delve deeper into the lore of Adoulin. These quests focus on the witches of the Blackthorn Coven, who were briefly touched upon in the main story. The update will also introduce the Gift system. Through this, players are able to unlock various job-specific bonuses and special equipment. Revamps to the accuracy rates and weapon skills of one-handed weapons will be made, as well as other job adjustments. Also, notorious monsters will be added for Wanted battles. Other details to the update can be seen here.
In 2012, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada had announced that Final Fantasy XI was the most profitable title in the Final Fantasy series. The game originally released in 2003, and was the first Final Fantasy game to go online. Since the game’s debut, there have been a number of expansions and updates added to the game. The title takes place in the world of Vana’diel, a vast land that players can explore. Gamers are able to choose between five different races, with a number of “Jobs” to choose from. The Job system is the game’s take on the class system. There are six standard Jobs to choose from at the start of the game, with extra Jobs being unlocked at level 30 after completing certain quests. The music for the game was worked on by Nobuo Uematsu, long time composer for the Final Fantasy series. When the game released, it met many positive reviews, and gained a bit of popularity. The game won many awards over the years, and has kept a following over the years.
Final Fantasy XI is available on PC and Xbox 360.
