Severed is an upcoming first-person action game from Guacamelee developer DrinkBox Studios. While not much about the game is known, we now have a release window for the game, as well as what system it will be coming to.
Gamers can expect to play Severed this coming Spring. The game will be a PS Vita exclusive. DrinkBox Studios put out a brief game description: “Filled with ghastly enemies, including three-headed constellations, six-armed swordmasters, and beasts made of crows, Severed has players take control of a one-armed heroine wielding a living sword as she knits together pieces of her story from both the past and the future.” They continue: “As the heroine, players will embark on a journey through a surreal, nonlinear world by using a touch-based combat mechanic to defeat enemies in this first-person adventure. During their journey, warriors will unlock new abilities, discover secrets of the mysterious world, and grow in power as the master both offensive and defensive techniques.” A trailer for Severed can be seen below.
The studio also addressed why the game will be a PS Vita exclusive. Graham Smith, Co-Founder of DrinkBox Studios had this to say: “DrinkBox has a strong releationship working with Sony and we felt that Severed’s combat and exploration mechanics were a perfect match for the Vita. We hope Vita gamers will fall in love with exploring Severed’s uncanny world though our gameplay just like they have with our previous titles.” While many of DrinkBox’s titles have appeared on multiple systems, the titles have always been featured games on Sony’s systems. As such, it does not surprise that Severed would be a PS Vita exclusive.
DrinkBox’s latest title before Severed was Guacamelee, an action platforming title featuring a luchador protagonist. Much like other Metroidvania titles, players gain more techniques as they progress through the game, opening more possibilities for them. The game came out on the Playtation 3 and PS Vita in 2013, with releases for other platforms throughout 2014.
