The Suicide Squad Cast has been revealed! Warner Bros and David Ayer’s upcoming adaptation of the black sheep comic series has some big actors and actresses set to appear.
Jared Leto will indeed play the Joker. Leto was rumored to be cast as the Joker at the beginning of November. Ryan Gosling apparently turned down the role due to the number of subsequent sequels he would also star in. Will Smith will play Deadshot, a master marksman. Will Smith was also rumored to be signing on to the project although his role was unclear. Smith’s previous films include After Earth, Seven Pounds and Hancock. Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, the leader of the squad in the comics. Hardy is best known for Inception and for portraying Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joker’s lover. Robbie was Leonardo’s wife in The Wolf Of Wall Street and is someone who could portray Quinn perfectly based on her performance in Wolf of Wall Street. Jai Courtney as Boomerang, a Flash villain. He portrayed John McClane’s son in A Good Day to Die Hard. Cara Delevinge will portray Enchantress, a freelance artist turned supervillain. Delevinge was the voice of the Non Stop Pop station in Grand Theft Auto V and will play Margo Roth Spiegelman in the upcoming Paper Towns adaptation.
Suicide Squad has been a mid-tier DC comic series since Identity Crisis in the early 2000’s. However due to Marvel’s recent success with D-list comics such as Guardians of the Galaxy, DC has been stepping it up in terms of comic adaptations. However it remains to be seen if DC can match Marvel’s quality. Also of note is that Jesse Eisenberg, Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, has been rumored to appear in the film alongside the Suicide Squad cast, tying it into a bigger DC universe. Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 5, 2016 and is set to begin filming in Toronto in April of next year.
