World of Warcraft was the topic of the day on Blizzard’s blog where they revealed the freshly updated character models for the Blood Elf race. While Blizzard does not have an ETA for when players can expect to see the new models joining the rest of the Warlords of Draenor updates, I’ve gotta say that they’ll be worth the wait!
Why did some races get facelifts (and then some) with the massive World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, and others like Blood Elves did not? In today’s battle.net post, Blizzard acknowledges that the staggered roll out of character updates is not the ideal scenario but promises that they are working as quickly as possible to remedy that situation without compromising quality.
Blizzard also added that they’ve additionally made some changes to their internal processes which should streamline the rollout for these kinds of World of Warcraft updates and hopefully reduce the delay in seeing the new characters in-game.
The battle.net Artcraft blog post also provides some interesting insight into the thought process behind the Blood Elf designs to make them game ready for rest of the Warlords of Draenor updates. The Blood Elf male has been the focus of Senior Artist Joe Keller who had this to say about his work, “The male Blood Elf already has a lot of character with his easily recognizable pose and stylish hair. Our update just gives us a chance to define and focus on that. His anatomy, facial features, and hair will all get an update while still maintaining his iconic look, bringing him to the level of the other new character models.”
Dusty Nolting, the Senior Artist who has been hard at work on the female Blood Elf character design had this to say about the update to the female model: “The Blood Elves bring a bit of subtlety to the Horde, and I think that was one of the most important aspects of the Blood Elves to Maintain. For the female specifically, something we did often was move things around in small but deliberate increments, to make sure everything was just right. It’s the delicate details like her nose shape or fingertips that represent the most challenging parts of upgrading the female.”
The fifth World of Warcraft expansion Warlords of Draenor once again pushed subscribers of the massive MMORPG title over the 10 million mark since November 13.
