Capcom seems to have a new PlayStation 4 title in the works. Capcom director and producer Jun Takeuchi hinted that the company has a PS4 title that they can soon announce in an interview with Japanese game magazine Famitsu.
Takeuchi hailed the PS4 as an “incredible system,” and mentioned that the more he uses the system, the more he uncovers. When asked if there were any PS4 titles on the way other than titles that have already been announced, he had this to say: “Of course. Right now, we’re seeing how far we can push the game engine. You’ll be surprised by the quality of the games we’re working on right now. I think we’ll be able to announce it soon, so please look forward to it. I realize that’s obnoxious (laughs).” He then mentioned: “It’s gonna be something that will even head overseas.”
One of the major PS4 games that Capcom is working on at the moment is the free-to-play dungeon crawler Deep Down. However, that game’s producer, Yoshinori Ono, is working on a second PS4 title. This could perhaps be the title that Takeuchi is hinting at. That, however, is unconfirmed. It is possible that Capcom may reveal the game at the upcoming PlayStation Experience event coming in the first weekend of December. Ono will be attending the event.
The PS4 title that Capcom is working on at the moment, Deep Down, was announced in early 2013 at the PlayStation Meeting where the PS4 was announced. A dungeon crawler, the title is a single player game with multiplayer options. The multiplayer in the game will be similar to the Dark Souls series. Capcom chose to make a new IP for the PS4 to be able to explore next-gen console architecture, and to avoid limitations from consumer expectations. At the moment, Deep Down has no definitive release date, though rumors point to a 2015 release.
