Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon has been confirmed today in an announcement by Atlus and Spike Chunsoft. The 3DS crossover title was revealed during a Niconico live stream this morning. The debut trailer for the game can be seen below.
Coming to the 3DS, Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon is a top-down dungeon RPG. According to the trailer, the game is for “those of you who have played 1,000 times” and for “those of you who want to play 10,000 times.” For those who do not know, Mystery Dungeon is a popular roguelike RPG series in Japan, which have been around since the early 1990s. The franchise is probably best known for the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon crossover series. Atlus has some experience in crossover titles as well; this month saw the release of the Persona crossover title Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. Both of these companies have done crossovers, so it looks like Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon has some experienced blood in it.
Atlus producer Sigeo Komori and director Yukari Yokoro are overseeing Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon. From Spike Chunsoft, Kaoru Hasegawa will handle character design. Music will be by Yuzo Koshiro, and Nizou Yamamoto will act as art supervisor. The class design drafter will be Yuji Himuki, and monster design will be by Shin Nagasawa.
Etrian Odyssey and the Mystery Dungeon is due for a March 5 release in Japan. The game will run 6,980 yen. Atlus and Spike Chunsoft have not announced if the crossover title will make its way West. As all Etrian Odyssey titles do make it West, there is a good possibility that the game will reach Western shores. Not much else is known about the title at the moment, so hopefully Atlus and Spike Chunsoft will release more information on the title as its release date nears.
