If you were looking forward to seeing some quality Dota 2 this weekend at the Synergy League LAN finals I’m afraid I have some bad news for your. The finals, which were originally scheduled to take place between November 28 – 30 have been postponed until next year. The organization responsible for hosting the event announced that it will no longer be able to do so because several teams have already cancelled their participation. As fate would have it, another major Dota 2 event will also take place this week, which forced participating teams to choose between the Synergy League finals and the DreamLeague playoffs. As you may have already guessed, some of the teams chose DreamLeague over Synergy League, although the organization did their best to find replacements for them.
Well known Dota 2 teams like Newbee, VP Polar, Moscow Five, Team Malaysia, and afterShock all announced that they will be unable to travel to Russia for the main event right after they qualified for it. However, the decision to postpone the tournament only came after HellRaiders also cancelled their participation just a few days before the event was scheduled to begin. Aside from teams dropping out, there was one more reason for why the LAN finals had to be cancelled according to the organization. Synergy League community manager Oleg ‘dreamknoxville’ Skobelev said that there were also financial reasons as the cost of the venue was higher that anticipated and the organization could no longer afford to rent it.
Skobelev didn’t say when exactly the Synergy League LAN finals have been rescheduled to take place but it’s certain that it will only be sometime in 2015. The event will feature a new list of teams, including those that didn’t cancel their participation earlier this month. More details will likely follow in the coming weeks, but for now, Dota 2 fans are eagerly anticipating the DreamLeague playoffs which will take place between November 27 – 29 in Sweden.
