Against all odds, the glory days of World of Warcraft are returning as millions of players from around the world are flocking to check out the new Warlords of Draenor expansion pack. Back in July, the game was not doing so well with only about 6.8 million active subscribers, although as the expansion approached this number grew to 7.4 million by October. We haven’t heard much else about the numbers until Blizzard recently issued a statement regarding the matter. The company says that World of Warcraft now has over 10 million subscribers again for the first time since 2012. Even more impressive, Warlords of Draenor sold 3.3 million copies on its launch day alone.
“We’re thrilled that so many players jumped in to play Warlords of Draenor on day one and are having a great time with the new content,” said Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime in a press release. “We poured a lot of hard work and passion into this expansion, and we appreciate all the kind words from players and the overwhelming support they continue to show for World of Warcraft.” Needless to say, Blizzard is quite happy with this fortunate turn of events, and who can blame them? Fans of the game are also just as happy considering that Warlords of Draenor is arguably the best World of Warcraft expansion to date. In other words, this is a win-win situation.
The expansion is definitely very appealing thanks to its content, but also because of the free level 90 boost. Just as its name suggests, this item allows you to instantly upgrade your character to level 90, which means that you can jump straight into the Warlords of Draenor content from the get-go if you wish. Interestingly, a level 90 character boost costs no less than $60 in the shop but if you buy World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor for only $50 you get it for free.
