This week not only saw the release of Halo The Master Chief Collection but also of Halo Nightfall, a television series being partly produced by Ridley Scott. The series is accessible through the Halo Channel that is available in the Master Chief Collection. The program is only five episodes long and will be released weekly. Halo Nightfall chronicles the adventures of Agent Locke, who is set to be a major protagonist and playable character in Halo 5 Guardians. Agent Locke is also included in two bookend cutscenes in Halo The Master Chief Collection, asking the Arbiter questions about Master Chief whom he is searching for. Nightfall is a narrative bridge between Halo 4 and Halo 5 Guardians. It is a spiritual successor to Forward Unto Dawn, a narrative expansion of Halo 4.
Mike Colter is the actor behind Agent Locke in Nightfall, and also the voice actor for the same character in Halo 5 Guardians. While in Halo 5 he plays a Spartan IV, in Nightfall Agent Locke is simply an agent of the Office of Naval Intelligence, or ONI for short. Speaking to Official Xbox Magazine UK, Colter had this to say about his character, “What’s not known is whether I’m a friend or foe. The relationship between Master Chief and Jameson Locke is going to be interesting. Because, what’s the outcome? Is he dead or alive? Because that’s usually what a manhunt comes down to – dead or alive – but you won’t know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he’s at mentally. But I’m sure that’ll be a plot twist in Halo 5.”
Halo 5 Guardians is set to release in fall of 2015 and a beta is planned for December of this year for those who purchase Halo The Master Chief Collection. Live action trailers and promotions are nothing new to the Halo franchise. Halo 3 has a few short videos as a prologue to the game, and Halo Reach also had a live action commercial that was featured prior to release. However, none of these evoked the emotion that is stirred by Halo 3: ODST’s live action trailer titled “We Are ODST.” For more information on Agent Locke and Halo 5: Guardians continue to check out LoadtheGame.com!
