The best European Smite teams will clash this weekend in Cologne, Germany for a slice of the total prize pool of $50,000. The European Championships are scheduled to kick off tomorrow, November 15, with the victor to be decided Sunday, November 16. Six of the best teams from the old continent will be duking it out over the weekend, but only the top two will get to advance further and secure themselves a spot in the Smite World Championships. Things start off tomorrow with the match between Cloud 9 HyperX and Aquila in the quarter-finals followed by the match between Team Solomid and SK Gaming.
The winner of the first quarter-final will move on to face Fnatic in the semi-final while the winner of the second quarter-final will have to go up against Mortality eSports in the next round. Fnatic and Mortality have already qualified to the Smite European Championships semi-finals earlier so all they have to do now is wait patiently for their opponents. Matches in the quarter-finals will be played in a best of three format and those from the semi-finals will be best of five. The grand final takes place on Sunday and will also feature a best of three format. Regardless of who wins in the final, both teams will get to travel to Atlanta, Georgia for the Smite World Championships that will take place at the Cobb Performing Arts Center Between January 9 – 11, 2015.
The Smite World Championships will feature eight of the best teams from five different regions. Two teams from Europe, two from North America, two from China, one from Brazil, and one from Hispanoamerica will battle it out for a total prize pool of over $1.3 million. The prize pool will continue to grow until then however and will undoubtedly reach at least $1.4 million by the time the World Championships begin. Smite is only the fourth game in eSports history to offer a prize pool of over $1 million at a tournament.
