Every Thursday Nintendo publishes the eShop update for both its Wii U and 3Ds. This update includes full digital titles, Virtual Console releases and smaller indie titles. It can be a lot and while you could read the full text on Nintendo’s press site, we thought you would prefer to get the gist of the update along with some recommendations on what to keep an eye on.
Nintendo eShop Update on Wii U
Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric – “In Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, Sonic, Knuckles, Amy and Tails, each with his or her own unique abilities, must work together to save the world and stop the evil alliance of Lyric and Dr. Eggman.” The game also communicates with Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal for the Nintendo 3DS, allowing you to unlock special upgrades. Recent Sonic games haven’t been very spectacular and Sonic Boom doesn’t appear to be changing that trend. If you want to see a hedgehog and other animals with super long feet and mummy wraps as wristbands run around however, this is the game for you.
A World of Keflings – “Play as your Mii character and help the friendly little Keflings harvest resources, assemble buildings and create thriving cities.” Another game taking inspiration from the ever popular Farmville crop of games, nothing special here.
Tengami – This is a puzzle game that has the unique graphical style of being a sort of book where you can unfold the pages to reveal a house or other setting made out of paper. It is set in Japan and has very melancholic colors to it, recommendable if you like puzzles and because of the art style.
LEGO Batman 3 Beyond Gotham – Available on both the 3DS and Wii U, the newest LEGO game continues the tradition of having a ton of characters to play as and so many collectibles to chase after.
Virtual Console Update on Wii U
Mario Kart Super Circuit – Game Boy Advance classic with 20 courses and hidden tracks. This continues the trend of Nintendo releasing Game Boy Advance games on the Virtual Console, now if only they would release them on the 3DS!
Nintendo eShop Update on Nintendo 3DS
Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal – This is the portable side-story that goes along with Rise of Lyric. Can’t speak of it quality-wise but I wouldn’t expect much from it. It does communicate with Rise of Lyric if you own that game, and can unlock special bonuses.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Danger of the Ooze – The plot description for this title appear to tie it closely to the recent film adaptation that was pretty forgettable, but is in the art style of the most recent Turtles animated show.
Tetris Ultimate – Tetris except with six modes and a challenge mode.
Virtual Console Update on Nintendo 3DS
Pokemon Trading Card Game – A Game Boy Color game where instead of playing an actual Pokemon game you play the Pokemon trading card game. The objective is the same as mainline Pokemon, beat gym leaders and become champion, though instead of collecting Pokemon you just collect cards. Purchase of the game also includes a code for the Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire demo.

This week isn’t entirely thrilling, with the big titles being Sonic Boom and another LEGO game. Pokemon Trading Card Game is a quick way to get access to the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire that are releasing next week. Also releasing next week is Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which you can also pre-load if you’ve already purchased the game. Check back next Thursday for all the details on those releases!
