We had already reported about LG working on Android 5.0 Lollipop and a suitable Optimus UI for the new LG G3 flagship. The LG G3 flagship is one of the best smartphones on the market and it was revered among the first phones to receive such a big QHD display. While the LG G3 is a bit older than the Galaxy Note 4 or iPhone 6, people are still talking about the device as if it were one of the best ones out there. When Google announced the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update, we were sure that the LG G3 would be among the first to receive the update. Other devices like the HTC One M8, One M7, Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 4 are also high on the waiting list.
While we were going on rumors the last time we reported about a release date for the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, things are different this time. LG has confirmed that Lollipop would begin rolling out to the device starting next week. The rollout for the LG G3 will begin in Poland, other key countries receiving the update in the “near future”. You might be wondering how the LG G3 can be the first to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, with all the Nexus devices out there. Rumor has it that the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, as well as other Google Play Edition devices should be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on November 12, after the release date was delayed. While we have no confirmation from Google on that, we can safely assume that the LG G3 will be the first to get the Material Design- and feature-touting new mobile operating system from Google.
CEO of LG has stressed the fact that the LG G3 represents the company’s biggest attempt at a great new smartphone and it is one of its best selling items of the year. With this in mind, CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park declared that releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for all LG G3 users is their top priority at the moment. Even so, the CEO wasn’t clear when the rollout would be completed, or which countries were the follow-ups of Poland. I guess we will know more about that later on. We also expect to hear something from Google regarding the Nexus line and when it will be receiving the Lollipop treatment, so stay tuned.
