Developer Remedy Entertainment’s creative director Sam Lake has recently unveiled an extended version of Quantum Break’s Gamescom 2014 demo featuring brand-new gameplay. This latest walkthrough includes protagonist Jack Joyce sneaking past Monarch Solutions eyes in order to meet with Quantum Break’s other lead, Beth Wilder, in addition to explaining the story behind Jack’s time-manipulation powers and how his once-best-friend Paul Serene becomes his deadliest foe. Additionally, you can also learn about the different time-amplified gameplay features, as Sam describes their uses for navigating the action-packed world of Quantum Break.
Developed by Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Studios, Quantum Break will feature live-action videos blended with regular gameplay. The game was revealed with a teaser trailer during the Xbox One reveal event on the 21st of May, 2013. A Quantum Break television series is also in production, with Remedy stating “how you play the game impacts the show, and the show informs how you play the game.”
Quantum Break is set at and around the fictional North Eastern U.S. Riverport University, where a time-travel experiment has gone wrong. The event not only causes time to break down, but also grants the three main characters – Jack Joyce, Beth Wilder, and Paul Serene – the ability to manipulate time. For example, Serene can see into the future to decide which choices to make in the present, while Joyce can stop time. The two are pursued by Monarch Solutions, a corporation founded by Serene. While developing the game, Remedy Entertainment consulted a scientist lecturer who had worked at CERN and who taught the studio how to write the plot in such a way that it adhered to current theoretical physics.
Quantum Break doesn’t currently have a firm release date, but it’s expected to be released sometime in the second quarter of 2015. Remedy Entertainment’s latest is an Xbox One exclusive.
