Uncharted 4 will feature a better multiplayer mode than previous installments

Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated next installation in the Uncharted series might start getting even more highly anticipated soon thanks to some recently uncovered info. It would appear that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End could end up featuring a better multiplayer component than its predecessors, which would definitely make it even more appealing. Naughty Dog hasn’t announced anything regarding the matter, but the company did post a couple of interesting new job listings for Game Designer (Multiplayer) and Game Designer (Multiplayer Systems Scripter). The people who are considering these job offers must have at least 3 years of experience in the games industry as well as various programming skills. Interested in (maybe) working on the multiplayer of Uncharted 4? If the answer is yes, these will be your responsibilities:

Game Designer (Multiplayer)

  • Responsible for the planning, setup and tuning of multiplayer from high concept to object placement and scripting.
  • Responsible for designing and producing intuitive and compelling systems ranging from player enhancement to balancing of weapons.
  • Responsible for level layout by creating simplified level geometry and performing extensive play-testing and iteration.
  • Act as producer for levels and systems, as well as other parts of the game, collaborating across disciplines to get work done and clear dependencies, ensuring deadlines are met, and championing aspects of the gameplay.
  • Work directly with artists, programmers, animators and other game designers to contribute to the vision of the game.
  • Work with programmers to develop tools on an ongoing basis.
  • Able to intelligently discuss techniques used to make multiplayer combat and systems fun.

Game Designer (Multiplayer Systems Scripter)

  • Design and prototype systems like game modes and player abilities using our proprietary text-based scripting language.
  • Design and balance multiplayer systems like player customization, weapons, progression & unlocks, and the online user experience.
  • Understand the core gameplay and world/tone, and how the multiplayer game can help embellish on them.
  • Work with our proprietary design tools and scripting language to prototype new multiplayer game mechanics and modes.
  • Be highly proactive in working with and communicating the design goals to other disciplines.
  • Follow through and see tasks through to the end.
  • Check and fix bugs.

Now, we’re not sure if the developers who will get these jobs will actually be working on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but it seems very likely at the moment. Naughty Dog is also said to be working on a new IP, but the company itself hasn’t announced anything yet so that’s just a rumor for now. It’s also possible that the listings are for The Last of Us 2, which is scheduled to release in 2016. However, Uncharted 4 is coming out next year so Naughty Dog is presumably focusing on this title at the moment. Thus, these listings seem to be indeed related to the latest installment in the Uncharted franchise, but take this with a grain of salt regardless, at least until the developer makes it official.
