PS4 Remote Play is one of the best features you can find on the new Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet devices recently launched by Sony in the U.S. While you will be able to get the Xperia Z3 with a carrier plan, the Xperia Z3 Compact is only available unlocked at the moment. Even though we had thought that PS4 Remote Play was a feature exclusive to the Xperia Z3 line, it seems that Sony has spilled the beans about including the feature in the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet.
The older Xperia models, the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet aren’t that much different from the newer Xperia Z3 line, so it’s not a surprise to see PS4 Remote Play ported to the devices. Nonetheless, the news comes as a pleasant one, even if Sony didn’t intend for it to come out. According to some information in the Xperia Lounge App, Sony will be endowing the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with PS4 Remote Play as soon as it is launched. As soon as the rumor got out, people started cheering about how Sony is not ignoring previous models and customers who had bought the still pretty recent Xperia Z2 or Z2 Tablet.
PS4 Remote Play is a Sony exclusive service that allows you to stream your games from your PS4 controller right to your Xperia smartphone or tablet, and by attaching a DualShock controller to your device, you can easily play your favorite PS4 games straight from your phone or tablet. The feature might come in handy in case your TV is occupied (haha) or you don’t have access to it. When the Xperia Z3 Verizon exclusive was launched last week, many American customers were thrilled by PS4 Remote Play and the opportunities the application offers. Many have already said that PS4 Remote Play is the most interesting feature in the Xperia Z3 line and that they would love to see the app available for other devices as well.
Sony might have not intended for the information to leak out to the public, but it sure is a good strategy on the company’s part. With its 6-month release policy asking for two new flagships each year, the PS4 Remote Play feature, at least, would be smart to port to older devices, because to be fair, they’re not that old, nor inferior to the Xperia Z3. We wonder how extensive the PS4 Remote Play app expansion will be, but it’s unlikely to migrate further than the Xperia Z2 line. Do you think that Sony’s PS4 Remote Play feature is a valuable app you would definitely want to have? I see it as a cumbersome playing mode, but it would come in handy when the boys are watching the game and I want to play Dragon Ball Z on my own.
