Nexus 6 vs Motorola Droid Turbo

The Nexus 6 and the Motorola Droid Turbo are two handsets made by the same company, coming out later this month. Both of these handsets have been overhyped in the past few months and weeks, and both seem to be promising powerhouses. While the Nexus 6 is scheduled to be launched sometime tomorrow, alongside the HTC Nexus 9 and Android L, the Motorola Droid Turbo is scheduled for an October 28 launch by Verizon.

While the Nexus 6 should have been a Google exclusive device, rumors say that the handset will be made available at different carriers, too, including Verizon. There hasn’t been confirmation on that, but it would be nice to be able to buy the Nexus 6 outside of the Google Play Store. The Motorola Droid Turbo, on the other hand, is naturally a Verizon Wireless exclusive device and you will only be able to get from the carrier. At least for starters, that it. I’m sure there will be alternative ways to get your hands on the Motorola Droid Turbo later on, after its national launch date.

The Nexus 6 is one of the most anticipated phablets of the year and there has been many controversy surrounding Motorola’s newest endeavor with Google. At the beginning, when rumors were first started, we had the impression that a 5.2 inch Nexus 6 would be coming our way, only to learn later on that Google and Motorola might be thinking of releasing two Nexus 6 variants at the same time, a 5.2 inch one and a behemoth 5.9 inch one. Latest rumors say that only the 5.9 inch Nexus 6 is going to be a reality, but until tomorrow, we’ll give Google and Motorola the benefit of doubt.

Many have voiced their concerns about a 5.9 inch Nexus 6 device, emphasizing the fact that such a big device would not lead to a very popular launch. Comparing the Nexus 6 to the LG Nexus 5 reiterates that concern. Nonetheless, we are fairly sure that the Nexus 6 will indeed be a phablet, as proven by the latest leaked cartoon ads from Google, where the Nexus 6 looks like a monster device. In any case, the Nexus 6 will surely be a powerhouse “smartphablet”, so we shouldn’t be worried about performance, but should plan on getting ourselves a fanny pack to fit the behemoth in. Jokes aside, let’s get right to our comparison.

The Nexus 6 will sport a 5.9 inch qHD display with a 498 ppi pixel density. We are expecting to see a 5.2 inch qHD display on the Motorola Droid Turbo, as well. Nexus 6 will be launched in tandem with Android 5.0 Lollipop, while the Motorola Droid Turbo will probably come with Android 4.4 KitKat, although we can expect to see Android L on Quark, too. The Nexus 6 will sport a Snapdragon 805 CPU backed by 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage and Adreno 420 GPU. A 13 MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and a ring-flash, and a 2.1 MP front camera will be featured on the Nexus 6. It’s a bit disappointing to learn that there will be no 64-bit support on the Nexus 6, but these specs haven’t been confirmed yet, so they are obviously subject to change and we hope they will.

According to most recent benchmarks, the Motorola Droid Turbo will sport the Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.65 GHz and backed by 3 GB RAM. Motorola’s new app suite should also be present on the Motorola Droid Turbo, including Moto Assist, Moto Actions, Moto Connect and Moto Display. Other rumors include 32 GB internal storage, Adreno 420 GPU, wireless charging, a 21 MP rear shooter with an LED flash and a whopping 3900 mAH battery which should be able to fully recharge in three hours time. The handset should be compatible with the new Motorola Turbo charger as well.

The Nexus 6 might add a fingerprint scanner to its features, which would be a new addition to the Nexus line of devices. NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 9 axis sensor would be the same as on the Nexus 5. Rumors say that Motorola’s fast charging technology might also be seen on the Nexus 6, which would be a nice feature to see ported from the Moto X 2014. Google Fit, the search engine giant’s new health monitoring platform might also be featured on the Nexus 6, as well as a cool front facing speaker on the bottom.

Both the Nexus 6 and Motorola Droid Turbo are very promising devices which should pose a serious threat to devices like the Galaxy Note 4, Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, as well as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Motorola is on its way to the top and we shall see how things will change once the Lenovo deal is finalized by the end of the year. Until then, Google and Motorola seem to be hand in hand with the upcoming Nexus 6.

The Motorola Droid Turbo is set for an October 28 launch, probably so that it won’t steal the spotlight from the Nexus 6 which should be launched tomorrow by Google and Motorola. Tomorrow is going to be a big day for Motorola, HTC and Google, since a whole new suite of software and hardware will be introduced to the public. Android Lollipop, Android Wear 2.0, HTC Nexus 9 and Motorola Nexus 6 are sure to show up at the event, but the companies might have something up their sleeves that we have no idea about.
