The Sony Demand Great event has just concluded with a Verizon exclusive Sony Xperia Z3 phone launch as well as a Sony Smartwatch 3 launch. It seems that today is a busy day, because the Lenovo Yoga event was also scheduled for today, just a few hours after the Sony event. We didn’t know what to expect from the Lenovo Yoga event, which was held in London. We were fairly sure that Lenovo would be announcing a new line of Lenovo Yoga tablets, including the Lenovo Yoga Pro 3.
Lenovo was nice enough to live stream the Lenovo Yoga event on Youtube and if you’ve seen it, you probably noticed that everybody was on their phones, tablets and laptops at the event. Except for the front row of course. As with many other tech-related events, everybody tries to stay as connected as possible.
The first device Lenovo introduced at the event was the anticipated Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro convertible tablet. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is the thinnest and lightest convertible tablet you will be able to find on the market and has a premium aluminium design that catches the eye immediately. It has a 13 inch display and is only 12.8 mm thick. What makes it thin and light is the watchband hinge that allows it to rotate into six points of stability for the notebook.
Execs emphasized the QHD plus 3200*18000 resolution display with a 276 ppi pixel density as well as the Intel Core M 70 CPU with a fanless design, backed by 8 GB RAM and dedicated Broadwell GPU. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is the first tablet to use the new Intel Broadwell chips allowing for a thin and light design.
A new intelligent software, called Harmony, was also introduced, featuring complete integration and optimizing settings based on how you are using your Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro has a stand mode, a tent mode, a tablet mode and a laptop mode. Harmony will auto-enable features based on what you are doing or which stance you are using. It can launch apps and adjust sound levels as well as display brightness based on your activities. It’s available in platinum, champagne gold and clementine orange.
The second arrival from Lenovo was the second generation Lenovo Yoga tablet, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 focuses on becoming the best entertainment consumption device. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 for Android and Windows, will be available in 8 inch and 10 inch versions. The Windows versions of the tablet will run on Windows 8.1, which offers full desktop integration and competes with Microsoft’s Surface line.
The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 has a new Hang mode feature which allows you to hang it anywhere you would like. There’s also a different stand design, which allows for multiple stand modes. Full HD display with 1900*1200 resolution and dual speakers with Dolby Audio are also featured in the tablets. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 also has the same 18 hour battery life as the first generation Lenovo Yoga Tablet and is LTE capable, as well. The keyboard experience has also been improved, with a neat, elegant curvature on the keyboards, that lock magnetically to the cylinders of the tablet and also serve as covers.
Lenovo announced a third product, which came as a surprise to almost everyone, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro which has a built-in projector. The projector is capable of producing 50 inch displays on any surface you want it to. Lenovo is the first company to blend a projector with a tablet. The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro tablet aims to deliver high quality sound with an 18 Watt 2.1 JBL sound system with a 5 Watt subwoofer, another first in the tablet market. It has a 2560*1440 QHD IPS display, with a 13.2 inch diameter, intended for indoor use.
Lenovo also mentioned that they would be closing the Motorola Mobility Business acquisition. by the end of the year. Lenovo also boasted asbeing the number 1 PC maker in the world, for the 6th time in a row. Lenovo is planning on shipping 100 million tablet and smartphone units by the end of 2014, and believes that they will reach that goal easily.
