With the recent announcement of three secret characters to be featured in Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Nintendo wanted to seize this momentum and take the lid off the game’s launch date. It’s now official: Super Smash Bros for Wii U will be overcrowding US store shelves on November 21st, and will retail for an alleged price of $59.99. The first tier of Nintendo’s interactive Amiibo figures will be released on the same day, with a retail price of $12.99 each. This debut Amiibo pack will include twelve iconic characters of the game. The second Amiibo tier of figurines will be featuring six more notorious characters and is expected to land this December.
According to Nintendo’s previous announcement, the first wave of Amiibo will include Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth. The second wave that launches in December includes Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon. These Amiibo figures will be able to interact wirelessly with compatible games in “unique new ways, providing fresh gameplay experiences and a great value for consumers.” Players will just need to tap the Amiibos to the Wii U GamePad controller to activate them, while some figures will offer multi-game compatibility with no additional equipment required. Super Smash Bros for Wii U will provide Amiibo support from day one. Upcoming Amiibo Games, such as Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World will be also supported, along with many others to come.
Nintendo announces that a software update might be needed to ensure Amiibo functionality for the above stated games. Fans who wish to play Super Smash Bros for Wii U with their favorite Nintendo GameCube or WaveBird controllers, will be able to do so with a special adapter provided by Nintendo. With this adapter you will be able to connect up to four GameCube or WaveBird controllers to work with the game. The special Nintendo adapter will be available for $19.99. A customized GameCube controller featuring the Super Smash Bros insignia will also be up for grabs at the price of $29.99. On top of that, Nintendo is offering a special bundle that will include a Super Smash Bros for Wii U copy, one Nintendo GameCube controller and one adapter at a suggested retail price of $99.99. All these will be available on November 21st, in North America.
